Tangible Archives: Epoch

Ephemeral rendered eternal through five centuries of French savoir-faire.

Epoch collection

By interpreting satellite views of significant landmasses, Epoch transforms geographic coordinates into personal sanctuaries. Each piece anchors a specific point in time and space, turning raw coordinates into a handmade landscape of personal history.

A collaborative endeavor between Pinton and Edouard Sankowski to capture fleeting moments and convert them into a medium of daily interaction.
Epoch translates the abstract—memory, time, and space—into permanent, tactile records.

Satellite view of a semi-arid landscape with green brush and winding dirt roads. This aerial perspective serves as the initial reference for the Tangible Archives: Epoch rug by Edouard Sankowski, woven at Manufacture Pinton.

At the helm of Krzywda, true to his philosophy, Edouard assists the material to reach its natural destination - the ego steps back to let the collector’s personal history and specific purpose lead the design.

Commissioning through Krzywda allows for a direct collaboration with the originator of the concept — ensuring an intimate, hand-in-hand curation of your project.

Process

The Place

Your Epoch begins with coordinates, a color or a feeling. A childhood home, a site of a first meeting, a remote landscape, or an architectural project, …anchor the design in a physical location.

The Interpretation

A maquette translates the topography into chromatic language. We select a palette reflecting a specific season, time of day or feeling, ensuring the work resonates with the atmosphere of your memory.

The Creation

Your project is hand crafted with meticulous precision and care by the master weavers of Ateliers Pinton. We give the work physical depth, creating a landscape that is felt as much as it is seen.

Since 1867, ATELIERS PINTON has been the vanguard of French tapestry. Based in Felletin, the maison is an institution in France’s tapestry-making heart—a history of incomparable know-how and technical exploration since the 15th century.

As holders of the EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant) label, Pinton’s master weavers transform unusual directions into physical heirlooms—bold, unorthodox works of art protected as Living Heritage.

Pinton has always bridged worlds, weaving the masterworks of Botero, Calder, Miró, Picasso... Today, that same hand-woven precision is applied to the digital cartography of Edouard Sankowski.

Tangible Archives is a collaboration led by Krzywda’s EDouard sankowski, exploring the dialogue between memory, how it meanders, is stored, accessed and interpreted, and translated and applied to the fluid warmth of textiles. Born from a legacy of structural arts linked to a strong heritage, the collection serves as a living record of historic craftsmanship reimagined for the contemporary interior, and entirely client centric. In collaboration with the weavers and makers of Manufacture Pinton, these works—ranging from hand-knotted and tufted floor rugs to monumental tapestries—are not merely decor, but artifacts intended to preserve a place and a memory with the tactile weight of bas-relief thanks to French heritage and savoir-faire.
